Social change is a long and slow process that does not simply occur in one night. It takes patience , time, effort, and support. Even with the knowledge of all of these aspects for a successful movement, it is very difficult to get a significant momentum on social change. It takes someone to start things up. In Doctorow's novel, "Little Brother", the main charecter Marcus is this leader that takes a stand and start a movement. Whether it simply be an idea or an act, it has to start somewhere. In most cases social change is not something that only one individual wants , it is a feeling that a large community of people may share and desire. So then what is it the frightens and hesitates people from standing up and share their ideas and beliefs with the rest of the community? In "Little Brother", Marcus is left by his close friends because they were frightened of the consequences. What is this fear that has surpassed our courage to stand for what we believe?
