Main Points from Readings

From the Liu article I understood that there is a societal trend toward less concentrated reading. Electronic documents are becoming more popular, however, people prefer to read from print. They are trying to find out how they can design electronic readings so they are more user friendly and are enjoyable for the reader. The Nielson article said that people typically don't read online text, they scan over it. People will typically read a line skip a couple, and then read another. The Jerz article showed me how important navigation is on a website. It is best to have navigation at the top and bottom of a page, and to avoid things like back and forward buttons. Three of the mortal sins that my website has are; my site uses a splash page, my logo is not on the top of each page and does not take you home when clicked, and my site uses a background graphic that when viewed on a large monitor repeats itself.
