I think that doctorow puts these references in the book because they all have anti establishment ideals. it allows the reader to have a real world example of things that have happened to those that are similar to the events occurring in the novel.
Anarchism- is the belief that the best way to live is with no government. this is in the book because in the book the government is controlling everything and it displays this in a negative light so naturally anarchism is looked at as a good thing.
Anarcho- feminism: combines feminism with anarchism and it is in the book for similar reasons to anarchism following the theme of rejecting and fighting against norms.
emma goldman: was a anarcho feminist writer who was famous for some of her writings and speeches that were pro anarchy. she is similar the the woman singer in the band in the book, during the concert.
