Emma Goldman, Anarchism, & Anarcho-Feminism
Anarchism is the philosophy which "considers the state undesirable, unnecessary, and harmful, and instead promotes a stateless society (anarchy)." Whereas anarcho-feminism is basically the same as anarchism; however it describes women who are trying to diminish or abolish the idea of a patriarchal society/hierarchy. Many anarchists, such as Emma Goldman, seek to diminish or abolish authority. Emma Goldman was a Russian born immigrant who became involved in the anarchist movement. The idea of anarchism is a huge theme in the book because for the entire book, Marcus represents the main anarchist who is trying to rid his country of the government who has recently become harmful to it's citizens. It seems that Emma Goldman is mentioned in the book because Marcus is basically following in her footsteps, trying to fight for a better, more helpful government.
