Emma Goldman

These topics are relate back to the novel in the same general sense. First off, Emma Goldman was a radical archa-Feminist, she was a pioneer in the revolution in the workspace. She helped workers gain rights and organize strikes against big name companies. She was interested in the Russian revolution and traveled there in order to soak up ideologies that were floating around there. She is a symbol for oppressed workers and their rights. The use of her name and reference to her in the book means that it is time for the overthrow of government. Something has got to give in this situation. People are entitled to their rights and if the government cannot allow them these rights, then it may be a time for change. Anarchism is a term of a political ideology that calls for the riddence of government, authority, police, etc. It states that people should be in charge of their own lives and that no government or authority figure should meddle in these affairs. A sub-branch of anarchism would be archa-feminism. This ideology is the union of both anarchy and feminism; another interesting ideology made reference to in the book.
