Scene by Scene outline and screenplay

So.. seeing as how Dreamweaver STILL won't let me "put" my website up, I'm just posting everything on here:

Scene by Scene outline

Four years later, Van, now 21, sitting by herself at Dolores Park looking pensive, a little sad. Sits there for a while, camera pans sort of around the scene. She gets up, walks away out of the shot.

Van, at a payphone, talking in a distressed tone. She hangs up and walks away.

Coffee shop, Van sitting by herself, Jolu and Darryl walk in, order coffee, look at each other awkwardly and sit down at Van’s table. They look around awkwardly, somewhat concerned, and then start to talk in hushed tones. They sit there all afternoon, planning.

Van’s apartment. Van and Jolu at one computer on a programming website talking about how dangerous Marcus has become and because of that how difficult it’s going to be to carry out the plan. Darryl brings up Ange, how she could possibly be help, that even though they were still together she was starting to distance herself from him. Van tells Darryl to call her immediately so they can get the plan going.

Darryl walks to a different room in the apartment, dials Ange’s phone number and takes a deep breath. She answers, he hesitates as she says hello. She says hello again and he starts to talk. The conversation is full of hesitations and concern, but Darryl successfully convinces her to join their trio. He gives her the address and says he’ll see her the next day.

Late afternoon. Introduce Ange, looking exhausted and worried, walking to Van’s apartment. She looks around, obviously very concerned. She knocks three times. Van opens the door and hurries her in. Once the door is closed the two hug and she rushes Ange into the office where Darryl and Jolu are busy at work. Van asks Darryl to fill Ange in and she returns to work with Jolu.
Time passes, it’s late at night, and Jolu and Van hurry and wake up Ange and Darryl and announce that it’s done. They send the link to Ange via the X-net on an anonymous e-mail and tell Ange that it’s all up to her at this point. She gives the group a sad smile and says that she’ll call them when it’s all over.

Show Ange walking into a massive skyscraper, obviously Marcus’s headquarters. The place is swarming with VampMobbers and Ange starts to get nervous. Second guessing herself, she turns around but remembers the importance of what she has to do and goes back in. Everyone knows who she is, gets many hellos, lots of respect. She goes to Marcus, tells him something is wrong and he logs onto the X-net, downloads the bug, and all of his work is destroyed. Infuriated, he tries to kill Ange. Van comes out of nowhere and shoots Marcus, killing him. She grabs Ange, and they quickly escape before anyone can see them.

2 days later. Jolu and Darryl in Van’s apartment, watching the news. The newscaster discusses how due to the death of Marcus the whole organization has fallen in on itself and that there is no longer such a major threat.

Van again, sitting alone at Dolores park. Looks pensive, happy. Jolu, Darryl, and Ange come up to her and smile at her. They sit down, engage in a happy conversation. The camera pans out and the scene goes to black. END.

Screenplay
Van: No one could believe it when he did it. Marcus was immediately considered a hero, and how could he not? The DHS had become so obsessed with catching the terrorists that they started to believe everyone was against them. When Marcus took them down we thought we were free of such intense oppression. Looking back, it’s funny how naive we were. Marcus was one of the smartest kids of our time, and he was always so paranoid. I didn’t think it was much of a surprise when he started to go off the deep end, I was always a little skeptical about his plans. Now, four years later, Marcus has turned into a full on tyrant. Whoever isn’t with him is against him, and nowadays Marcus seems to believe everyone’s against him. Something has to be done about him, but everyone either lacks the knowledge or is too afraid that they’ll just be another missing person, another face on a milk carton. Doesn’t matter. I know people that are out there with the knowledge and the resources to be able to take him down. It’s just a matter of time…

Van: Please guys, just meet with me. I know we can do it. You guys were his two best friends in high school, and I know that you have the brains to be able to follow through, Jolu. We can do this. Just meet me at the wharf tomorrow at 4. Really? You guys will? Alright, I’ll see you guys tomorrow. Look discreet, we don’t need Marcus’s VampMobbers on our backs all afternoon, especially at a time like this. I’ll see you guys tomorrow. Look discreet. We don’t need Marcus suspecting any more than he already is. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.

Jolu, Darryl, Van: exchange hellos
Jolu: We didn’t think we were going to hear from you again.
Darryl: Yeah, after Marcus and the VampMob took the DHS down you just completely fell off the map, Van. What happened to you?
Van: Nothing happened, I just felt like it’d be safer that way. Hate to sound condescending, but I kind of had a feeling this would happen from the beginning. Marcus was too paranoid; I could see it from the get-go that he was going to let all of this power corrupt him. You saw how everyone treated him after he won, people loved him. It was only a matter of time you guys.
Darryl: Yeah, I guess. It was hard watching him turn into what he is now. It’s not like we can do anything about it though. He’s too powerful; he’s got too much influence.
Van: That’s why I invited you guys here. You guys are gonna think I’m insane, but I really think that we can bring him down from the inside out.
Jolu, Darryl: Is this a joke? There’s no way that we’d be able to figure out a plan to destroy his mini-empire, much less actually be able to…
Van: It’s so funny how you guys underestimate yourselves. Darryl, you were Marcus’s best friend, and Jolu, you were always his go-to man when he needed anything when it came to programming. I think that if we put our heads together we can actually do this.
**camera starts to pan out**
Van: So I told them the plan. I would work with Jolu on making the ultimate X-net virus—one that would be able to search and destroy any form of the X-net, wireless or not. Darryl would be in charge of figuring out a way of getting Marcus to release the virus. It didn’t seem like it’d be too much of a struggle, just a lot of time.
**screen fades to black**
Darryl: you guys, I think I know how we can get the virus to Marcus.
Van, Jolu: HOW.
Darryl: Ange. Even though her and Marus are still together, I’ve heard that they’ve been having serious problems. She’d probably be down to help us out.
Van: Darryl, that’s awesome. Give her a call, see if she’d be able to give it a shot. Be careful though, we don’t want to put ourselves at risk if she’s not willing to help us out.
Darryl: Don’t worry, I know how to play it. **Dials**
Ringing…ringing…
Ange: Hello?

Seeing as how I'm generally uncreative, I think this is pretty good as far as my skills go. I've successfully branched off of LB's initial plot and have come up with a completely seperate story line that I think would be capable of being it's own independent story. There's still a lot of work to be done, but overall I think it's fairly successful so far.

Step Outline?...

Scene 1: Marcus's room, computer screen is open, he is sitting in his chair when he gets a message and is told where to meet the anonymous sender.

Scene 2: Marcus walks to the meeting place, and stands under an overpass as he waits for the sender. A town car arrives and the driver instructs Marcus to get in.

Scene 3: The town car takes him to an underground tunnel that leads under the Bay. Marcus arrives at a door, and the driver tells him to go on in.

Scene 4: The President of the United States of America is sitting in the room and is the anonymous sender. He needs Marcus's help to hack into the DHS server and find out what their plan is to take over the US. Marcus hacks it and finds a file that says they are going to assasinate the president and take over the government.

Scene 5: Secret service suddenly bursts into the room and yells that a bomber is headed into the tunnel. Marcus and the President are escorted up a ladder which leads into an emergency submarine and they escape right before the bomb goes off.

Scene 6: Marcus and the President go to Barbara, tell their story, and expose the DHS.

Screenplay

Marcus is on a pay-phone speaking to someone in an arabic tone. He says,"mission complete, the DHS is out of the way." The man on the other end is speaking Arabic and the conversation ends with the subtitles "bring death to the infidels". The camera moves to a cave in Afghanistan where Osama Bin Laden is hanging up the phone on "@hm3d". There is a file next to him with Marcus's picture and next to it the codename @hm3d. Underneath details on his mission are written. Marcus, or @hm3d, is back at home on his computer searching "most populated area in Las Vegas". It is soon inferred that Marcus, or @hm3d, is in fact a terrorist. @hm3d is planning a dirty bomb attack against Las Vegas. The DHS needed to be out of the way so that @hm3d and a crew of Islamic extremists could move about with being questioned and caught by the DHS. In the midst of planting the explosives around Las Vegas, @hm3d realizes that even if he carries out the attack, Bin Laden will not risk having an asset who knows his whereabouts in the states. @hm3d realizes he will be killed after the attack, and quickly sabotages the plot against the U.S., confesses to the government his involvement with Al Qaeda, but quickly works out a deal to save himself and give up Bin Laden's whereabouts. @hm3d, who is now Marcus again, proceeds to live a quiet life as a computer programmer.

The main plot of the movie is that Marcus was actually a terrorist the entire time he was fighting against the DHS. He was hired by Al Qaeda to take down the DHS from within the United States. This would then clear the path for Al Qaeda to carry out a terrorist attack on the city of Las Vegas. However, after completing the task of taking down the DHS, Marcus, being paranoid as he is, bugs Osama’s phone and overhears a conversation describing how to kill Marcus after he’s done with his task. Marcus knows that he is going to be killed and decides to intervene against the attack on Las Vegas. After warning the government and thwarting the attack, Marcus decides to settle down and live a normal life. He becomes a full-time computer programmer and moves in with Ange. They live happily ever after.

Screen Play

Marcus sits in a hotel room on a bed with his head resting in his hands which are resting on his knees. His eyes twitch back and forth slightly, his face conveys that his life is about to change forever. Ange comes out of the bathroom dressed in an elegant black dress, with jewelry to complete it. She looks puzzled at him and asks what’s the matter. He remains silent. She sits down next to him and puts her arm around him and lays her head on his shoulder. She says, "This is what we have to do, it is time to end this all. We need to send a message out to all of the US citizens and people everywhere." Marcus mutters, "I know, it’s just that I am nervous". Ange says "Don't worry, just stick to the plan and it all work out fine, the escape route is fine and we have the element of surprise." Marcus says “You’re right". He stands and says "Tonight we end this war, tonight we take back our country, tonight we send out a message to the public to take back control of our government, and tonight we will kill the president..."
Marcus finishes dressing and he and Ange go down in front of the hotel where a limousine is waiting for them. They get in and head directly towards the gala. The plan was simple; a silenced gun had been planted earlier in the bathroom. All Marcus had to do was waiting for the President to go to the bathroom, he had to the gala was 5 hours long, and take out the president and his right hand man.
They arrived to the gala and verified that they on the guest list. They walked in and found their seats. The gala was uneventful; it was commemorating the President’s decision to heighten security all around the nation and to celebrate his birthday. Eventually, the President had to take care of business, thus he made his way over to the bathroom with his right hand man. Now was the time for Marcus to make his move. He was posing as a European diplomat and had no problem going into the bathroom with the president. The gun had been stashed in the toilet top; Marcus dislodged it and opened it from the plastic bag that it was kept in. He had only two shots, so he better make it count. He moved into position and cocked back the gun. He thought for a second what this would be accomplishing, why he was doing this and what repercussions would happen. All of this was going through his head when he pulled the trigger, both shots hit their target and the deed was done. He deposited the gun into the stall and walked out nonchalantly. He met up with Ange and made their way into the kitchen where they changed into chef clothing and walked out the back door. It was over; the plan had been carried out. Was it moral, was it just, will it help? None of these questions were answered. Marcus will have to wait to see if the message sank into the public mind. Will it cause change?

Treatment 2nd Draft

"Operation Black Bay"
Set two years later from the original story, Marcus is sitting in his room reading a huge screen that takes up his entire bedroom wall, he is scrolling through many windows and files and suddenly a message pops up

It's two years since Marcus was freed from the DHS, and he gets a message over the still existing Xnet. The sender claims to be an important governmental figure who needs help to overcome the DHS again. Marcus becomes interested although he knows he shouldn't be, and responds asking how the sender wants help and what the DHS is doing. The sender replies that the DHS leaders have a plot to asassinate the president and take over, turning the country back into a military state. Marcus is shocked and decides to help right away. The sender gives him somewhere to wait in the city to meet up, and when Marcus arrives there, a towncar is waiting for him. He gets into the towncar and it drives him to a secret tunnel that leads under the Bay, and into a hidden safehouse. When he is finally greeted in the safehouse, Marcus is shocked to find out that the sender is the President of the United States himself.
Marcus and the President form a plan to infiltrate the DHS's system and find out what the exact assasination plan is so they can expose the DHS to the media, and the President can formally accuse them of treachery. Marcus hacks into the system and as they search they do not find anything. They are disappointed and decide to give up when suddenly Marcus falls upon a plan in the system called "Operation Black Bay". As they read the plan, they discover that the attack is planned for later that day, on the fortress under the bay. Suddenly one of the secret service members bursts in and tells them they are under attack and they need to take a secret exit out. They climb up the secret exit straight into a submarine that is on the bottom of the bay. Marcus has a chip that has the DHS's plan on it and goes straight to Barbara who is now a billionare for her first story about the DHS. They publish it and the President proves that the DHS was trying to kill him.

0-1...And the wind up...

Lights turn on in the long hallways of The Combine, a cold building with a slightly futuristic warehouse feel. Cut to close-up of Miller's face as he wakes up, then another to him going to do his daily share of "progress for the good of The Combine". During this there's a shaking and loud crashes (earthquake and broken walls). Turns out some of the citizens have seen the outside world, which is said to be radioactive still, for the first time in their lives. Miller find out that Toby, his best friend, was present and they talk about what he saw. Toby says the outside world looked fine, if not better then fine. There is none of the destruction and decay that the leaders had discussed. The next day all people who saw the outside are gone, and the leaders say they have been removed for medical reasons relating to the radiation they experienced. Miller isn’t buying it, it’s all just too sketchy. He sneaks into the leaders only sector of the building and hears that they have killed all those who realized the outside world is fine. The head leader is quoted, "I will not stand by and watch my children become savages addicted to drugs, violence, and promiscuity! We shall protect them from these evils! We will have order!" Miller realizes that to save the rest of the society he must get out and find help. He is caught, however sneaking back into the regular sector, but lies his way out of it claiming to have made a wrong turn on his way home from working for progress. The clock begins, as they are on to him, and he must find a way out immediately. He knows it can’t be long until they realize that he talked to Toby and the come and take him to join his murdered friend. Miller escapes by coordinating other youths, who have likewise been put off by the recent turn in events, to have a dance party that will mask his sawing through the ventilation and getting out. It works as the noise of the party masks his power tools. The last scene begins with Miller reaching the outside world. Then, it cuts to him a long way down a road in the wilderness with a police car slowly pulling up to him. An officer’s voice is clearly heard, "son are you alright?"

Pitch Second Look

In this script we will be focusing on the main storyline with some plot twists. The main point of this retelling of little brother is to make Marcu seem to really care about his friends and hopefully get the viewers emotionally attached to Marcus. This will hopefully make the ending more painful and heartfelt. In doing this I hope to make Marcus into a more likable character unlike his normal annoying arrogant self.

Act 1:
Marcus and gang are walking around using his Phone to find a Wifi hot spot. In the background the Bay bridge is collapsing as a loud bomb echoes throughout the city. They end up running towards the train station as load speakers broadcast the attack. In the crowded streets Darryl is stabbed. He lies their gasping for air. As the people are slowly dispersing Marcus goes into a panic trying to get help. Patrol cars and fire trucks are zooming by. Marcus jumps out on the street fearless because of all the adrenaline. At the last second he comes to his senses and all he can do is shut his eyes in terror of the oncoming car.

Act 2:
Marcus opens his eyes. Amazed by his luck and remembering that Daryl is dying he yells out for help. Armed men come out of the car and place a sac on his head and pulls him away. He regains his vision when he is in the back of a truck. Asking about Daryl only provokes the guards to bash him over the head with the butt of the gun. He lays there until he is eventually taken to a jail cell.

Act 3:
The scenes are becoming more jumpy. Scenes are flashing in and out. We see the scene where he talks to the DHS lady. They talk about his phone and about Daryl. She denies him any rights etc.. He is brought back to his cell. Flashes to him unlocking his phone and being let free. Flashes to XNet and operation false positive. Flashes to circle of friends. Flashes to going to his parents and the press. Flashes to the Vamp mob. Flashes to him being back in the jail cell. He is now being taken back out to be tortured. As he is being drowned his tears mix with the water. When the police bust in and save him. All he can say is where are his friends.

Act 4:
His eyes open from the point of view of Marcus. He sees lights. He is with Ange. There they talk about how he became a terrorist. (quotes will be taken from the book). He talks to Ange saying how he is happy that everything was for a good cause. He is happy to be with her and is happy that Daryl is okay and that all his friends were able to survive this hell. He smiles and cries because he is overjoyed. Scene ends zooming into Marcus’ face. (Eyes closed crying with a smile)

Act 5:
The scene fades out from Marcus’ face. We are in a hospital. Marcus is lying in the hospital bed. His parents are by his side. Marcus lying there hooked up to machines. On his face he has a smile and is crying. The doctor gives a disapproving nod. Marcus' parents cry. Scene goes into darkness. Green lines (hospital heartbeat) it comes to a straight line and a long beeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Pitch (revised)

[A very professional, impersonal office inside of a rundown yet overly cleaned jail, minimal furniture is around with no decorations, gives off an uncomfortable feel]
Ange and Severe Hair Cut Lady have a private meeting in an office. Ange tells SHCL to inform Marcus about the details of "Operation Seduction." SHCL hesitates but leaves the room anyways. Marcus is released from his cell, escorted by two large guards that move in a robotic manner, looking malnourished and with urine stains all over the pants of his jumpsuit. Severe Hair Lady sits Marcus down in an interrogation room. She tells Marcus (with no remorse but a slight smile on her face) that Ange is a double agent working for the DHS. SHCL smirks and leaves the room. Marcus does not believe her and thinks that SHCL is just messing with his head. Marcus is truly under the impression that SHCL is trying to get under his skin and cause him to tell the DHS all of his secrets. He sits calmly, clearly somewhat adapted to the ways of Gitmo-by-the-Bay. That is when Ange walks into the room. Marcus runs to hug her and hold her and ask her how she possibly got in there, forgetting about what SHCL told him. It takes him a long moment before he realizes Ange is not moving beneath his arms or kissing him back. Then his heart drops into his stomach as Ange smiles a vicious smile he is not used to. He realizes that she is no longer dressed in teenage punk rock clothes but rather in professional and military-esque pant suit. He backs up against the wall in fear, not able to grasp what just happened. When Ange knows that Marcus has learned the truth she leaves smiles a wide and malevolent smile and turns on her heel and exits the room.
[Ange's memory]
[Ange is walking down the street of a city or residential area. Either chaos or extreme quiet on the streets]
A flashback of Ange's starts to play. Terrorists have just attacked San Francisco, the city that Ange has grown up in.
[Ange's house is pleasant from the outside, but upon entering the once immaculately clean home is a war zone with food and garbage and evidence of destruction all over]
Through the crowded streets Ange rushes home to find her baby brother alone, father drinking himself in his sorrows, and learns her mother died in the attack. She goes haywire and decides to single handedly find those responsible for the attack. She does not know where to start or what to do, but she figures her computer hacking skills will lead her to those that want to go undetected. Eventually, although her efforts were unsuccessful, the DHS catches up with her and recruits her to work for them. She is told to work as a double agent and catch those rebellious teenagers on the Xnet responsible for the attacks. The screen will go back to present and show Ange with the same malicious smile on her face and show the look of horror on Marcus' face in the background as he tries to sort through his revelation and try to find a way out of Gitmo-by-the-Bay.

fat man

Fat man

This story looks at the story of Little Brother from the perspective of Charles. Marcus tells us that Charles is an annoying tattle tale, but little to Marcus's knowledge Charles is actually a crime fighting vigilante. Charles also believes that everything the DHS is doing is wrong so he too is out to stop them. Aware of everything that Marcus is doing on the Xnet, charles is also an Xnetter but knows he could never reveal this to Marcus and the rest of the Xnetters because he has to keep a low profile. To do this Charles still acts like a tattle tale making it possible for him to never have the DHS after him because he makes the impression that he is the perfect citizen. With the cover of darkness to hide under Charles takes to the streets in his spandex super hero suit. Unfortunately for Charles he isn't quite as chiseled as other super hero vigilantes we have come to love; in fact Charles is just plain fat. Where Charles lacks in athletic ability he makes up for persistence however. Charles is the peaceful type and only takes to violence when needed. His main mission is to expose the DHS for everything they are doing that is unconstitutional. To do this Charles busts several missions to the DHS secret jail equipped with only a go pro strapped to his helmet and a regular camera with a long lens to capture everything severe haircut lady and her posy are up too. Charles's first 2 mission to the jail he surveys looking for ways in and take plenty of video and pictures. On his last mission to the secret jail Charles tries to make it through the vents to film and listen in on what is going on in jail. Everything is going great till he climbs a little too far finding that he is now stuck due to his bulging stomach. While trying to get out he falls through one of the vents the vent onto the interrogation desk of severe haircut lady while she is interrogating Daryl! An epic battle commences. Charles is forced to use his coveted blinding mayonnaise gun to subdue severe haircut lady. Unfortunately she is the least of his problems and he has to fight off several more guards. Just when it seems Charles and Daryl are home free they see 3 more guards in there way. Charles picks off one with the mayonnaise gun but the other 2 start to fire them, Daryl gets hit in the shoulder. Charles takes down one but get knocked down by the other and is held at gun point. Right when the guard is about to pull the trigger, Daryl heroically finds a conveniently placed crow bar and knocks the guard out. They are free and Charles takes Daryl home to his father. They cry and stuff and there's a touching reunion, then they got to the police explain everything and the police go arrest the rest of the DHS.

Story Pitch

As we zoom in on a tall skyscraper in the middle of a bustling downtown San Francisco, we see a young teenage girl sitting at a cubicle slightly bigger than the rows of cubicles surrounding her. All of those in the room are continuously typing on their keyboards and conversing with each other while being closely watched by a fairly young woman with a severe haircut standing in the doorway to the room. We finally center in on the young girl, Masha, who like the others in the room with her, is a DHS spy. Masha is in charge of XNet Infiltration Operation at the DHS San Francisco department. She was offered the job after being kidnapped and interrogated by Severe Haircut Lady and her “crew” after the Bay Bridge was bombed by terrorists.

After the initial bombing of the Bay Bridge, Masha was picked up by the DHS as a suspected terrorist and kept in a prison on Treasure Island for several weeks. During that time, Severe Haircut Lady and her associates interrogated Masha and tortured her until they decided to take advantage of Masha’s hacking skills and offered her an opportunity to join the DHS and track down other hackers in the city. After a week of arguing with herself whether to accept the offer or not, Masha decided that if she ever wanted to prevent the DHS from doing such things to innocent civilians again, getting on their good side would be the only way. Masha was put in charge of tracking down the leader of the so called XNetters, M1k3y, in order to turn him in to the DHS.

Fast forward to the present - Masha has developed an extensive relationship with M1k3y, a.k.a Marcus, and his girlfriend Ange. Together, the three of them have been inventing multiple ways to throw off the DHS and encouraging others their age to stand up to the DHS. Some of their work included the invention of arphid cloners, a press conference that landed them a future interview with a local reporter named Barbara Stratford, and their final event, the Vamp Mob. Unfortunately, Masha must be extremely careful about her dealings with Marcus and Ange because of how closely Severe Haircut Lady and the DHS keep tabs on their “employees”. Staying under the radar gets even harder for Masha when Ange attempts to expose Masha to the DHS after she develops a love interest in Marcus which Ange discovers through a specially encoded e-mail from Masha to Marcus.
